‖ steatornis|stiːəˈtɔːnɪs| [mod.L. (Humboldt 1814), f. Gr. στεατ-, στέαρ fat + ὄρνις bird.] A bird of the species Steatornis caripensis, the type and only representative of the family Steatornithidæ; the guacharo or oil-bird of South America.
