Burton Politics of Legitimacy 188 ‘Stickies’ is the widespread term used to designate the Official IRA/Sinn Féin. I heard two accounts of the origin of the term and both were somewhat apocryphal. The other explained the name by referring to the fact that the Provisional IRA Easter Lilies were pinned to their supporters' clothes whereas the Officials had theirs stuck on. 1978D.
