‖ delphinium Bot.|dɛlˈfɪnɪəm| [Bot. Lat. Delphīnium, a. Gr. δελϕίνιον larkspur (Dioscorides), dim. of δελϕίν dolphin (so named from the form of the nectary).] a. A genus of plants, family Ranunculaceæ, with handsome flowers of irregular form, comprising the common larkspur and many other species. The name is in ordinary horticultural use for the cultivated species and varieties.
