‖ stompneus S. Africa.|ˈstɔmpnœs| [Du. = blunt nose.] Either of two edible fishes found off the coast of southern Africa, the red and silver Chrysoblephus gibbiceps or the silvery Rhabdosargus globiceps, both of the family Sparidæ. Also stump-nose (see stump n.).
