[ad. Sp. desposorios espousal, betrothal, f. desposar to affiance:—L. dēsponsāre (after which the word is modified in English). Chiefly used in relation to the proposed Spanish marriage of Charles I.]
1. Betrothal, or a ceremony in celebration of it.
