Gr. διάζωµα girdle, partition, or diaphragm, lobby in a theatre, f. διά through, over + ζῶµα that which is girded, f. ζωννύναι to gird round.] 1. In the ancient Greek theatre: A semicircular passage through the auditorium, parallel to its outer border, and cutting the radial flights of steps at right angles at a point about half way up.
