diervilla Bot.|ˈdɪəvɪlə| [mod.L. (Tournefort 1707, in Acta Acad. 1706 VII. 85), f. the name of Dierville, a French surgeon, who discovered a species of the plant in Acadia 1699–1700.] A plant of the genus so named, comprising deciduous shrubs having pink, crimson, yellow, or white flowers; some species are also called weigela or bush-honeysuckle (see honeysuckle 3 b).
