dihydropyridine, n. Chem. and Pharmacol. Also: any of various compounds derived from these; esp. any of a class of drugs derived from 1,4-dihydropyridine (in which the nitrogen and the carbon opposite to it in the pyridine ring are hydrogenated), which act as calcium channel blockers and are used chiefly for the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris.
