‖ Diodon Zool.|ˈdaɪədɒn| [mod.L., f. Gr. type *διόδον doubly-toothed (sc. θηρίον animal), f. δι-, (di-2) twice + ὀδούς, ὀδοντ- (in neuter adjs. -οδον) tooth.] A genus of globe-fishes, having the jaws tipped with enamel, forming a tooth-like tubercle in the centre of the beak above and below. The name has also been improperly given to a genus of South American falcons, and to the cetacean genus Ziphius.
