dioptase Min.|daɪˈɒpteɪs| [a. F. dioptase (Haüy 1801), irreg. f. Gr. δι-, δια- through + ὀπτός seen, visible: cf. διόπτης a looker through.] A translucent silicate of copper, crystallizing in six-sided prisms, called emerald copper ore.
