dipyre Min.|dɪˈpaɪə(r)| [mod. (Haüy 1801) ad. L. dipȳros, Gr. δίπυρος twice put into the fire, f. δι- twice + πῦρ fire: so called because when heated it exhibits both phosphorescence and fusion.] A silicate of alumina with small proportions of the silicates of soda and lime, occurring in square prisms.
