‖ sublingua Zool.|sʌbˈlɪŋgwə| [mod.L.: see sub- 1 f and lingua. (In medical L., sublingua was formerly used for ‘uvula’.)] In some animals, e.g. lemurs, a process consisting of a fold of mucous membrane under the tongue.

Anat. 553 In many Prosimii and Chiroptera, as also in the platyrrhine Apes, there is a process below the tongue which is sometimes double; this is the so-called sublingua. 1896tr. Boas' Text Bk.
