1. Bot. Bearing the fructification (as a fern) upon the back (i.e. under side) of the frond.
1727–51Chambers Cycl., Dorsiferous, or Dorsiparous Plants..bear their seeds on the backside of their leaves. 1835Lindley Introd. Bot. (1848) II. 95 Polypodiaceæ, or what are more commonly called dorsiferous ferns.
