An ornamental lining, usually of leather, on the inside of a book-cover.
1886Pall Mall G. 24 Nov. 6/2 With a doublure (this is the term applied to the elaborated inside faces of the cover) of crimson morocco. 1892Bookseller's Catal., Bound in Brocade of the Eighteenth Century, the cloth cover with the Artist's design in gold used as a doublure. 1895J.
