dramedy, n. Brit. |ˈdrɑːmɪdi|, U.S. |ˈdrɑmədi| Forms: 19– dramady, 19– dramedy [Blend of drama n. and comedy n.1] A work of art exhibiting qualities of both drama and comedy. In later use: spec. a television programme or film in which the comedic elements are primarily derived from character and plot development rather than from artificial situations, typical comic formulae, or slapstick. Also: such works as a genre.
