Teut. str. vb. *drît-an, drait, dritan-, in ON. drîta, dreit, dritinn, MDu. drîten, Du. drijten, L.G. drîten. The strong inflexion pa. tense drate, drait, dret, and pa. pple. drittin, also dirtin, are retained in Sc. Hence dirt, ME. drit.] intr. To void or drop excrement; to stool.
