dum-dum|ˈdʌmdʌm| Also Dum Dum, Dum-Dum. [f. Dum-Dum, name of a town and arsenal near Calcutta, where they were first produced.] In full dum-dum bullet: a metal-cased bullet with a soft core uncovered at the point, which expands on impact. Hence ˈdum-dum v. trans., to convert into a dum-dum bullet.
