Duralumin|djʊˈræljuːmɪn| Also duralumin, duraluminium. [Perh. f. L. dūrus hard + aluminium: but see note below.] The proprietary name of a number of heat-treatable wrought aluminium alloys which contain copper and other elements and are comparable to mild steel in strength and hardness but are much lighter. The name may have been derived from the German placename Düren. Heat-treatable light aluminium alloys were first produced by the Dürener Metallwerke Aktien Gesellschaft.
