▪ I. dy|daɪ| [a. Sw. dy mire, ooze (H. von Post 1862, in K. Sven. Vetenskaps-Akad. Handl. 1), f. ON. dý, perh. f. Gmc. *dunhia, rel. to *dungia, the antecedent of OE. dung dung (see Falk and Torp); but the etym. of the ON. word is disputed.] A type of sediment rich in organic matter deposited in unproductive lakes.
