ecgonine Chem.|ˈɛkgɒnɪn| [ad. G. ecgonin (F. Wöhler 1862, in Ann. d. Chemie u. Pharm. CXXI. 372), f. Gr. ἔκγονος, f. ἐκ out of, from + γον-, γεν- to produce + -ine5.] An alkaloid base, C9H15NO3, obtained by the decomposition of cocaine. Hence ecgonic |ɛkˈgɒnɪk| a., defining an acid obtained from ecgonine; ˈecgonate, a salt of this.
