ectrotic, a. Med.|ɛkˈtrɒtɪk| [ad. Gr. ἐκτρωτικός pertaining to abortion, ἐκτιτρώσκειν to miscarry.] ‘Term formerly applied to medicines and agents which cause abortion of the fœtus. Also applied to medicines or modes of treatment which tend to produce the abortion or sudden cutting short of a disease’ (Syd. Soc. Lex.).
1866A. Flint Princ. Med. (1880) 1039 The local treatment [in small pox] embraces measures to render the eruption abortive on the face, or to prevent the disfiguration caused by pitting. The treatment for this end is called ectrotic. |
