‖ eid, n.|iːd| Also 7–9 eed; 20 idh, and with capital initial. [Arab. ꜥīid festival, f. Aramaic; cf. Syriac ꜥīida festival, holiday.] An Islamic canonical festival; spec. (with capital initial) = *id-al-adha n. and id-ul-fitr n. The festival of id-ul-adha is known on the Indian subcontinent as baḳraꜥīd (Hindi baḳra he-goat): see first quots.
