ekistics|ɪˈkɪstɪks| [f. mod.Gr. ἡ οἰκιστική, f. Gr. οἰκιστικός relating to settlement, f. οἰκίζ-ειν to settle (a colony), f. οἶκος house, dwelling.] A name given by C. A. Doxiadis to the study of human settlements and the way they develop and adapt themselves to changing circumstances. Hence eˈkistic a., relating to ekistics; ekiˈstician |-ʃən|, one who studies or is versed in ekistics.
