elasmotherium Palæont.|ɪˌlæzməʊˈθɪərɪəm| Also elasmothere. [mod.L. (G. Fischer de Waldheim 1808, in Mém. Soc. Imp. Nat. Moscou II. 250), f. Gr. ἐλασµός metal plate + θηρίον beast.] A large extinct rhinoceros of the genus so named, the remains of which are found in the Pleistocene of Eurasia.
