elf-lock|ˈɛlflɒk| In 6, 9 pl. elves-locks. [f. elf + lock (of hair).] A tangled mass of hair, superstitiously attributed to the agency of elves, esp. Queen Mab: ‘which it was not fortunate to disentangle’ (Nares).
