takaful, n. Islam. Brit. |ˈtɑːkɑfuːl|, U.S. |ˈtɑkɑˌful| Forms: 19– takafol, 19– takaful [‹ Arabic takāful mutual obligation ‹ kafala to support, provide for; to guarantee, stand surety for.] The principle of mutual obligation; (now) spec. a form of mutual insurance, compliant with Sharia law, in which subscribers contribute to a fund, sharing losses and liabilities and also any profits which may accrue.
