A practice among the Cathari, in which those who have received the consolamentum undergo physical privations, freq. resulting in death, in order to prevent recontamination of the soul.
1888H. C. Lea Hist. Inquisition I. iii. 95 When this heretication occurred on the death-bed, it was commonly followed by the ‘Endura’ or ‘privation’.1922H. J.
