‖ taungya|ˈtaʊŋjə| Also taunggya, † toungya. [Burmese, f. taung hill + ya plot, field.] A temporary hillside clearing. Usu. attrib., designating a method of shifting cultivation practised in Burma, and a system of forest management based on this (see quot. 1938) and employed in tropical countries.
