[‹ scientific Latin Taxus, genus name (see taxane n.) + -ol suffix.] A taxane, C47H51NO14, originally isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew, Taxus brevifolia, and later found to have antimitotic and antineoplastic activity. Later also: (a proprietary name for) the drug paclitaxel, based on this compound.
