▪ I. epithem, n. Med.|ˈɛpɪθəm| Also 6–7 epitheme, (6 epythyme, 7 epithyme). [ad. Gr. ἐπίθεµα, f. ἐπιτιθέναι, f. ἐπί upon + τιθέναι to place.] ‘Any kind of moist, or soft, external application’ (Syd. Soc. Lex.).
