Tempranillo, n.|tɛmprəˈnɪl(j)əʊ| Also Tempranilla. [a. Sp. Tempranillo, dim. of temprano early: see temporaneous a. The grape is probably so-named because of its tendency to ripen early.] a. A Spanish variety of black grape, used esp. in making Rioja. b. Red Rioja wine made from such grapes.
