† eˈsprise, v. Obs. [f. OF. espris, pa. pple. of esprendre (mod.F. éprendre) in same sense, f. es-:—L. ex- + prendre to take.] trans. chiefly pass. To set on fire, enkindle, inflame (with love, etc.); also lit. (with flame).
