A solid body bounded by forty-eight triangular planes; also called hexakisoctahedron, octakis-hexahedron, tetrakonta-octahedron, and forty-eight scalenohedron; esp. the variety of this described in quot.
1895Story-Maskelyne Crystallogr. 204 The complete form has the character of a pyramidion developement of the rhomb-dodecahedron, each face of the latter figure being surmounted by a rhomb-based pyramid, to which it forms a conterminous base. These therefore are the forms that may be correctly designated as tetrakisdodecahedra or dodecahedrid pyramidious. |
