† tharn, v. Obs. Forms: 3 (Orm.) þarrnenn, 4 þarn, 4–5 tharn(e, (thorne). [ad. ON. þarna, refl. þarnask to be without, lack, want, f. þarna (earlier *þarf-na) n. need, f. þarf-: see tharf v.] trans. To be without; to want, lack, need; to be deprived of, to lose. Hence † ˈtharning vbl. n., being without, lacking, want; losing, loss.
