thiazide Pharm.|ˈθaɪəzaɪd| [f. thio- + azine + oxide, elements in the systematic name of the parent compound.] Any of a class of drugs derived from 1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxide that increase the excretion of sodium and chloride and are used as diuretics and as auxiliary hypotensive agents.
