G. farnesol (Haarmann & Reimer 1902, in (German) Patentschrift 149603), f. mod.L. farnes-iana, epithet of a species of Acacia, f. the name of Odoardo Farnese (1573–1626), Italian cardinal + -ol 1.] A terpenoid alcohol, C15H25OH, that occurs in various essential oils and is used in the preparation of scents.
