Faroese, a. and n.|fɛərəʊˈiːz, færəʊˈiːz| Also Faröese, Færoese, Feroese. [f. Faröe + -ese, after Sw. Färöarna, Da. Færøerne Faröe islands = Icel. Færeyskr Faroese (adj.), f. Færeyjar Faröe islands, f. fær sheep + ey island.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to the Faröe Islands, an autonomous dependency of the kingdom of Denmark situated between Great Britain and Iceland, their inhabitants, or the language spoken by them. B. n. a. A native or inhabitant of the Faröe Islands. b. The language of the Faröe Islands, which is a variety of Norse.
