toˈluidine Chem. Also toluidene, -in. [f. tolu- + -idine.] a. A crystalline base, C7H7(NH2), produced by the action of sulphuric acid on nitrotoluene, solidifying in snow-white crystals, which gradually turn brown on contact with the air: the source of numerous compounds, e.g. ˌazotoˈluidine, ˌphenyltoˈluidine, etc. Also called aˌmidoˈtoluene, and formerly toluylia.
