flavone Chem.|ˈfleɪ-, ˈflævəʊn| [ad. G. flavon (von Kostanecki & Tambor 1895, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. XXVIII. 2302), f. flavo- + -one.] a. A colourless crystalline tricyclic compound, C15H10O2; 2-phenylbenzo-1, 4-pyrone. b. Any of the derivatives of this compound, many of which are plant pigments; a flavonoid.
