recaptor|riːˈkæptə(r)| [f. re- + captor.] 1. One who retakes by capture; esp. one who makes a recapture at sea.
1752Beawes Lex Mercat. 280 She and her cargo were sold, to pay the salvage due to the recaptors. 1804Ld. Ellenborough in Best's Rep. V. 320 Lyde in that case accepted the goods from the recaptors, and not from the master. 1848Arnould Law Mar. Insur. (1866) II. iii. viii. 969 A perishable cargo having, after capture of ship, been brought by recaptors into a foreign port. 2. Law. One who takes goods by a recaption or second distraint.
