▪ I. † forˈstand, foreˈstand, v.1 Obs. [OE. forstandan, f. for- prefix1 + standan to stand.] 1. trans. To oppose, withstand; to bar. In quot. 1599 perh. = ‘neglect’ (cf. forsit, or read foreslow'd).
