tremolite Min.|ˈtrɛməlaɪt| [Named 1796, f. Tremola, in Switzerland, where found + -ite1.] A white or grey (sometimes transparent) variety of amphibole, composed of magnesia and lime, with little or no iron, occurring in fibrous masses or thin-bladed crystals. Also called grammatite.
