free climb, n. Mountaineering and Rock-climbing. Brit. |ˈfriː klʌɪm|, U.S. |ˈfri ˌklaɪm| [‹ free adj. + climb n., after free-climbing n., free climber n.] A route that is climbed without the use of artificial aids such as pegs or etriers, but usually with ropes or other safety equipment. Also: an ascent made in this way; an instance of free-climbing.
