[mod.L., f. Gr. τριχ-, θρίξ hair + οὐρά tail.]
A nematode worm of the genus of this name, which comprises filamentous worms (whipworms) several centimetres long that are intestinal parasites of man and higher animals.

London V. 226 It is now five years since I first discovered a new species of worm..but it was not till lately that I found that the same worm was first mentioned by Roederer, in the year 1760... Hence trichuˈriasis [-iasis], infection with such worms, which in man may be inapparent but can cause diarrhœa and other symptoms.
