trimethoprim Pharm.|traɪˈmɛθəʊprɪm| [f. trimethyl + oxy- + pyrimidine, constituent parts of the systematic name (see quot. 1962).] An antibiotic, C14H18N4O3, that is usually given in conjunction with a sulphonamide, esp. in the treatment of malaria and of respiratory and urinary infections.
