tritomite Min.|ˈtrɪtəmaɪt| [ad. G. tritomit (P. H. Weibye 1850, in Ann. d. Physik u. Chem. LXXIX. 299), f. Gr. τρίτοµος thrice-cut, in allusion to the shape of the cavities left by the crystals: see -ite1.] a. A borosilicate, fluoride, and hydroxide of cerium earths, calcium, and thorium found as brown trigonal crystals. b. tritomite-Y: an analogue of this in which yttrium largely replaces cerium.
