† tritoxide Chem. Obs.|traɪ-, trɪˈtɒksaɪd| [f. trito- + oxide.] The third of the series of oxides of a metal or radical, containing the next higher proportion of oxygen to the deutoxide. (Now expressed by trioxide or other term indicating the actual proportion: cf. protoxide, deutoxide.) Sometimes improperly used to denote a compound containing three proportions of oxygen (= trioxide).
