† gansel Obs. Forms: 5 gauncely(e, gawncel(y, gaunsell(e, 5, 8–9 Sc. gansell. [ad. OF. ganse aillie garlic-sauce, f. ganse, janse, app. meaning some kind of sauce (jause also occurs, riming with sauce) + aillie some kind of derivative from ail garlic. In later Fr. jance d'aulx is used in the same sense.] A garlic sauce, used esp. for goose.
