‖ gelsemium|dʒɛlˈsiːmɪəm| [Mod.Lat., f. It. gelsomino jasmine: the name ‘jasmine’ being in the U.S. misapplied to plants of this genus.] a. With capital initial. A genus of twining shrubs of the family Loganiaceæ. b. The roots of a plant of this genus (G. sempervirens), or a preparation of them, used as a medicine; also called gelseminum.
