A Roman head-dress formed by plaiting the hair in a cone above the forehead, worn esp. by the Flamen and his wife.
1753Chambers Cycl. Supp., Tutulus, among the Romans, a manner of dressing the hair, by gathering it up on the forehead into the form of a tower... Tutulus likewise signified a woollen cap with a high top. 1816J.
